Sir Walter Scott is everything you would expect him to be. He captures the essence of a great romance. He is skillful at using comedy and he is very adept with the everyday Scottish vernacular of the 1800's. The scottish vernacular can be a little difficult to understand, as an average american, but it is worth the effort.
If you want to be transported back to a Scotland of yesteryear where gentlemen did not work from 9-5 and ladies didn't wear slacks, this book is your ticket. Beware, though, you may end up crying.
